Alyssa Dooley has been named as "Most Valuable Student-Athlete" for the 2011 Sam Houston State University women's cross country team.

The junior from Flower Mound received the honor for the second year in a row.

Dooley finished 14th at the 2011 Southland Conference women's cross country championship, the highest individual finish by a Sam Houston competitor in the race since 2004.

She was the top female performer in each of the Kats' five meets this year, winning the Centenary Ladies Invitational.

The "Most Valuable Player" awards for the 2011-12 sports season were announced at the annual Sam Houston State University spring athletic banquet at the Lowman Student Center Ballroom on April 23.
