BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Sam Houston State women's bowling team will wrap up the qualifying round on Friday morning with a pair of matches against rivals SFA and Arkansas State.

That will close out the first round of play at the NCAA Women's Bowling Championship at the Raising Cane's River Center. The results of all seven qualifying matches will determine the seeding for Friday afternoon's double elimination bracket play.

Madysen Keller led the Kats during the qualifying round averaging 211.4 over seven games. Her mark was the sixth-best in the field.

Game 6 vs No. 7 SFA (Loss, 1037-931)

The Bearkats opened Day 2 of the NCAA Women’s Bowling Championships with a 106-pin loss to SFA.

The Kats came out of the gate slow and were not able to recover against their rivals. Strikes were hard to come by for Sam Houston in the early going with Lynne Fishler and Madysen Keller recording the onle two for the Kats in the first three frames.

Stephanie Zavala going it going in the middle frames with four straight strikes starting in the fourth on her way to a team high 201. Keller, who opened the day fourth in the championship in average closed strong with four straight strikes to finish with a 191.  

 

Game 7 vs Ark State (Loss, 983-938)

The Kats dropped their final match of the qualifying round, falling to Arkansas State by 45 pins.

Madysen Keller continued her consistent play, with a 206 to lead the team. It was her fourth game over 200 for the championship and puts her in the top 10 individually.

Sam Houston will be the No. 8 seed in the double elimination bracket round and will face top-seed McKendree.
