On the second day of action at the Track Kat Klash, the fifth-ranked Sam Houston bowlers moved up two places to fifth heading into the final day of the 21-team tournament.

Despite posting a 2-3 record on the day, the Kats were still able to move up the standings. They will enter the bracket round as the fifth-seed and can finish as high as third on Sunday.

“Today was a very difficult schedule and a true test for our team,” said head coach Brad Hagen. “One of the things I want to see early in the year is how we handle adversity, especially the new girls, and then how we respond.”

The Kats opened the day with a narrow 11-pin loss to Tulane. They followed with wins against Arkansas State and Nebraska, who will enter Sunday as the top seed. But losses to Maryland Eastern Shore and Vanderbilt cost Sam Houston a chance at a top four seed and an opportunity to defend their title.

Freshman Hayley Connelly led the way for the Bearkats with a 207 average and finished the day 6th individually with a high game was a 257. Madysen Keller is 14th overall with a 200 average.

They will open up Sunday’s play against No. 6-seed SFA.
