Following another successful season, finishing 3rd nationally at this year’s NCAA National Championships, Sam Houston bowling coach Brad Hagen has added his first signee to the 2018-19 squad with the addition of Bea Hernandez from Bambang Pasig City, Philippines.

Hernandez is the second signee from the Philippines to join the Beakats and is the seventh international player to join the program during its eight-year history.

“Bea is a very talented young lady who has competed at a very high level internationally for her country for a long time both on her youth team and adult team,” Hagen said. “Bea's competitive experiences and her academic work ethic will fit in great with this team. This young lady’s potential is endless.”

Some of Bea’s most recent accomplishments include at the 19th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships - Bronze in Doubles, 2017 Philippine Bowling Federation Youth Quarterly Championships - Gold, 2017 Philippine Bowling Federation National Youth Championships - Girls Singles Event - Gold, Girls Doubles Event - Silver, Girls Team Event - Gold, Girls Masters Event – Bronze. 

The former Philippine Bowling Federation Youth Bowler of the Year joins the Bearkats with a very strong academic background where's she has posted a 3.49 GPA and plans to focus her academic future as a Business Major. 

Other national team members who have joined the Bearkats or made their respective team as a Bearkat include: Dayna Galganski (Junior Team USA), Aida Sanchez (Dominican Republic Youth National & Adult team), Neishka Cardona (Puerto Rico Youth National & Adult team), Janine Kuwahara (Youth National Team-Philippines), Carrie Hopkinson (Canada Youth National & Adult Team), Lynne Fishler (Israeli Youth & Adult National Team Member). Heather Penatzer (2X Junior Team USA), Stephanie Zavala (Adult Team & Junior Team USA 2016-2017), Syasya Ismail (Singapore Youth National).
