A pair of wins over top-20 opponents highlights a 5-0 day on the lanes for the Sam Houston bowlers on the first day of the Mid-Winter Invitational hosted by Arkansas State.

Despite being just three team to post perfect marks, the Kats sit in 9thin total pinfall.

Today was a very eventful day but I’m thankful we came out on the right side of it,” said head coach Brad Hagen. “We had a great look all day but our execution was lack luster in the consistency department at best.”

The Bearkats knocked off No. 14 Louisiana Tech and No. 15 Lincoln Memorial as part of the five-win day.

“We have to pick up the energy and remain disciplined,” Hagen said. “This event won’t get any easier over the next 48 hours but we have all the potential and depth to move forward and get the wins we need.”

Saturday’s action will include a matchup with No. 1 ranked McKendree.
