Elise Chambers capped a great week at the Junior Gold Amateur Championships with the best ever finish for a Bearkat, earning a spot on the Junior Team USA.
Chambers navigated a field of 430 bowlers to finish fourth at the Under-20 event. After making the cut to the final 63 bowlers, she qualified for the double-elimination knockout round as the No. 3 seed. That top-3 placement is what earned her the automatic spot on Junior Team USA
After reaching the semifinals of the winners bracket on Friday night, Chambers lost on Saturday morning, dropping her to the losers bracket. She won her first match there, putting her one win away from a top three finish and a spot in the championship bracket.
Chambers becomes the third Bearkat to make the Junior Team USA, joining two-time member Heather Penatzer and Stephanie Zavala. The Bearkats have had a representative on the junior national team four of the last five years.
As a freshman this past season, Chambers helped lead the Bearkats to their first Southland Conference Championship and a bid to the NCAA Championships for the 8thtime in the program’s nine years.
