Three Sam Houston bowlers have been named to the NTCA All-Academic team for this past season.
Bea Hernandez, Syasya Ismail and Madysen Keller were among a group of 256 honorees representing bowling programs at 55 schools across the country.
Hernandez, a freshman this past season, was named the Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year, a first team all-league selection and was the MVP of the Southland Conference Bowling League Tournament.
Keller just wrapped up her senior season with the Kats, participating in the nationals all four years in the program. This year Keller was named to the all-tournament team at the Southland Championships. In 2017 she was the first bowler at Sam Houston to record a 300 game. Keller made her professional debut at the Luci Bonneau Striking Against Breast Cancer Mixed Doubles Tournament in Houston last week.
Ismail has been two-year member for the Bearkats, helping the team to it’s first Southland Championship this past spring. She is a Criminal Justice major.
“Obviously our goal every year is to win a national championship, but academics has always been a strong aspect of our program,” said head coach Brad Hagen. “I’m proud of what Bea, Syasya and Madysen were able to accomplish this past season in the classroom, as they continue to raise the bar academically for this program.”
A student athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher for the academic school year to qualify for this award.
