Sam Houston bowling coach Brad Hagen has officially added his first Brunei player ever to the 2019-2020 squad with the addition of Natasya Rafie.
Rafie, from Gadong Brunei, is joining the Bearkats as one of the most decorated youth and national female players to come out of the Brunei. She has been a member of her youth and senior national team since 2018.
She is the 10th international bowler to join the Bearkat bowling program as they head in to their tenth-season and will be the 14th to have represented their national team as a Bearkat.
“Natsya is a very talented young lady who has competed all over the Asian zone,” Hagen said. “Natsya's international exposure against some elite competition and competitiveness will fit in great with this team. She’s competitively coming off her most active and best summer ever and still has a tremendous upside to her.”
Rafie's arrival to Sam Houston State is her first trip ever to the United States but she's no stranger to competition. Since March of 2019 Rafie has seen nine international podium finishes which included a gold medal at this years 51st Singapore International Open in the Graded Women's Division, a gold medal in the Ladies Division of the 40th Malaysia International Open, and her latest, a three medal showing at the Sarawak Borneo Tenpin Bowling Championships back in July.
