HOUSTON – The Sam Houston bowlers took fourth place on Sunday at the TRACK Kat Klash at Emerald Bowl in Houston.
The Kats posted a 2-1 record on Sunday posting wins against a pair of ranked opponents, knocking off No. 3 SFA and No. 8 North Carolina A&T. They fell in the final match of the day against No. 6 Arkansas State.
Sam Houston opened up Bracket play as the No. 5 seed, taking on the sixth-seeded Lumberjacks. The Kats made short work of SFA, winning the best-of-7 match in five games. After the two teams split the first game tied at 174, the Bearkats rolled through, winning the next four games to advance.
In the second round, the Kats went the distance with North Carolina A&T. After dropping the opening game, the Bearkats won games 2 and 3 before A&T took game four. The two teams tied game five and with SHSU winning game 6 and A&T winning game 7, the two teams had to go to a roll off where the Kats won 100-93.
In the third place match against Arkansas State, the Kats jumped up 3-0 before the Red Wolves stormed back to win the next four games to take the match.
The Kats finished the weekend with a 9-4 record, including seven wins against teams in the top 25.
