With a pair of wins over No. 9 Tulane, the Sam Houston bowling team took third place on Sunday at the Kutztown invitational.

The Bearkats opened the day knocking off Tulane to advance to the semifinals. Against Vanderbilt in the semis, Sam Houston dropped a tough match in seven games. They responded back in the third-place match to knock off Tulane.

“Today’s mind set was great and we knew we needed to fight for everything,” said head coach Brad Hagen. “I’m happy with how the team performed and despite some errant moments we never let our emotions consume us.”

For the weekend, the Bearkats posted a 9-4 record against a field of 27 that included 18 teams in the top 25 and Stephanie Zavala was named to the all-tournament team.

“Walking away with nine wins in a quality field keeps us in the mix and where we need to be moving forward,” Hagen said.

The Kats will take two weeks off before returning to action for the first of two straight tournaments in Texas when they head to Arlington for the Prairie View A&M Invitational.
