In what is becoming a regular occurrence, the Bearkats bowlers are earning some national recognition. Syasya Ismail was named to the NTCA All-Academic squad this summer after posting a 3.81 GPA in Criminal Justice.
Ismail is the 33rd Bearkat in the last eight seasons to earn academic All-American honors from the National Tenpins Coaches Association.
“I’m so proud of what Syasya was able to accomplish this past season academically,” said head coach Brad Hagen. “We are always looking for bowlers who can perform at a high level both on the lanes and in the classroom and she certainly did that this past season.”
Each season the National Tenpin Coaches Association recognizes student athletes who have excelled in the classroom. To be recognized, a student athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher for the academic school year. This year there are 268 honorees, representing NCAA bowling programs at 55 schools. This is a record for both individuals and schools since the inception of the award in 2006.
The Bearkats will klick off the 2018-19 season on Oct 13 with a USBC event at City View Lanes in Fort Worth. The regular season will get underway on Oct. 19 at the Tulane Invitational.
