Sam Houston sophomore Elise Chambers has navigated a loaded field at the 2019 Junior Gold National Championships to put herself in position to win a title.

Chambers kicked off the competition on Monday in a field of more than 400 bowlers and will enter Saturday in the semifinals of the winners bracket.

Over four days of bowling the initial field was cut down to the top 64 bowlers. Chambers then survived two more rounds of cuts to qualify for the double elimination round of 16 as the No. 3 overall seed. Friday night she recorded a pair of head to head victories, including a win in the round of 8 over Angelique Dalesandro of Vanderbilt.

With a win on Saturday morning, Chambers can qualify for the TV bracket and two wins will earn her a bye to championship match.

Chambers is joined by some familiar company in the under-20 Girls Division at the Junior Gold Championships. Of the final 16 bowls, six, including Chambers, currently bowl for Southland Bowling League teams.

Saturday’s action will get started at 8:30 a.m. and can been seen live on
