Both championship races will be streamed on Facebook Live via the Southland Conference Facebook page with the live broadcast beginning on race day at 8:30 a.m. Pecan Acres Park, the site of the event, sports a loop cross country course, consisting of large areas of shade and all dirt/grass.

The Bearkats are looking to close the cross season on a strong note and rebound from the championships a season ago in which the men placed seventh and the women took eighth.

In its last action, Sam Houston posted a quality showing at the Aggieland Open, with the men capturing second and the women placing third. The Kats’ Chris Speaks secured third in the 8K (25:09.59) followed closely by teammate Evan Arambula in fifth (25:25.98).

Ana Moreno secured a fifth-place finisher in the 5K at 18:27.35 while Olivia Olguin took home 10th with a time of 18:42.28 to record her second top-10 finish this fall.

The Lamar men have claimed nine of the last 10 cross country titles, including taking the top spot last year to extend its winning streak to three. The men are seeking its first top-five finish since 2008 when the squad took fifth in Nacogdoches. The team has taken second place five times with the last in 2005.

On the women’s side, four different teams have won the event during the last five years with Abilene Christian securing the title in 2015. The team is searching for its fourth top-five result in the last five seasons. Sam Houston took third in 2014 and secured runner-up in 2012.
