CONWAY, Ark. - Junior Andrew Bosquez finished sixth to lead the Sam Houston State men’s cross country team to a ninth-place finish at the 2019 Southland Conference Championships Friday morning at Beaverfork Lake Park.

Bosquez completed the 8k course in 24:20.7 which was 19 seconds off the pace of Jordan Rowe of Lamar who won the individual championship. Bosquez earned a second-team All-SLC selection for his performance.

Lamar captured the title, landing six runners among the top-15 finishers and scoring 34 points to set a new conference championship record for widest margin of victory (86). The Bearkats finished ahead of New Orleans, Houston Baptist, Nicholls and Northwestern State with a score of 206.

Freshman Austin Zirkel placed 13th with a time of 24:41.2 to earn third-team All-SLC honors. Sophomore Sergio Armendariz was 30th (25:22.1), freshman Jonathan Loebl placed 78th (26:49.6), junior Leo Michel was 82nd (27:35.2) and freshman Brendan Gilbert was 89th (27:39.3).
