COLLEGE STATION - The Sam Houston State men's and women's cross country teams competed in the 2018 Texas A&M Invitational on Saturday with Alex Hernandez and Cryslan Tucker leading the way.
On the men's side, Hernandez finished 18th and collected 17 points in the 8k race. The senior finished with a time of 25:08.21 and was followed by teammates Sergio Armendariz (25:51.28), Jordan Leon (25:57.54), David Zavala (26:03.28) and Jeffrey Moore (27:57.12). The men’s team collected a total of 204 points to finish eighth out of the field of 14. The Bearkats total time was 2:10.20.82 and the average time for the runners was 26:04.04.
For the women, Tucker placed 37th and collected 33 points in the women’s 6k race. She finished with a time of 23:12.0. Rounding out the top five finishers for the women’s race were Hanna Tarrant (23:16.0), Rebeca Gonzalez (23:47.29), Lizzy Duenes (24:42.98) and Sandy Clarkin (24:54.62). The team collected a total of 252 amongst the five finishers, finishing 10th out of 13 teams.
The men’s team ranked second out of the four Southland Conference participants. They finished just ahead of conference opponents Southeastern Louisiana and Abilene Christian. They will be back in action just one week, getting a preview of the SLC championship course at the Cowboy Stampede in Lake Charles, La. on September 29.
