COLLEGE STATION – The Sam Houston State men secured 12th and the women finished 13th on the backs of three top-50 results Saturday at the Texas A&M Invitational from the Watts Cross Country Course.
For a second consecutive meet, Jordan Leon paced the way for the men, taking 42nd with a mark of 6:11.5 in the 8K. The junior moved ahead eight spots on the final kilometer as the Bearkats brought home 328 points among the 15-team field.
On the women’s side, Hannah Tarrant also added a 42nd place result in the 6K, vaulting ahead 23 spots over the final four kilometers to finish with a time of 7:24.3. Like Leon, it marked the second consecutive meet to begin the season in which the junior paced action for the Kats.
Meanwhile, Hernandez followed closely behind Leon, taking 45th with a mark of 6:11.8 while moving ahead nine spots over the final six kilometers. Other men’s finishers included a 91st place finish from David Zavala (6:17.1), 98th from Grant Buley (6:12.9), 104th for Jeffrey Moore (6:32.8) and Cameron Theriot in 148th (6:38.9).
Texas A&M won the meet on both the men’s and women’s side courtesy of 62 points and 50 points, respectively. Sam Houston returns to the course for its final regular season meet one week from Friday for the Aggieland Open.
