Shake, fresh off an individual title on Tuesday at the Islander Classic in Corpus Christi, had a 73.83 scoring average in her six competitive rounds in February.
“Heather has been so consistent for us all season,” said women’s golf coach Tommy Chain. “She doesn’t get down after a tough shot and competes all 18 holes.”
Battling windy conditions in Corpus Christi, that saw scores range from 67 to 97, Shake stayed steady, firing 70, 74 and 76 to claim the title by three strokes. Her round of 70 was the third lowest of the tournament, helping Sam Houston to the team title as well.
She led the field in par 3 scoring, shooting 2-under on the par 3 holes, one of just two golfers under par. That included scoring one of just six total birdies on the par-3 17th. She was also second on the par 5s with a 4.92 average for the weekend. She was also second in the field in total pars with 38.
In her other tournament of the month, Shake finished 18th at the Amelia Island Collegiate in Jacksonville, Fla. Once again, consistency was the key for Shake, shooting rounds of 72, 75 and 76.
Shake, last season’s Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year, earns her first monthly recognition from the league.
