Sophomore Hanna Alberto picked up right where she left off last season, winning the opening tournament of the 2017-18 season at the ORU Lady Maxwell.

Alberto fired a 1-over, 214 for the three-round event finishing in a tie at the top of the leaderboard after 54 holes. Then on the first playoff hole, Alberto drained a 30-foot birdie putt to win the individual title. She helped lead the Kats to a third-place finish for the event, shooting 900 as a team.

Gianti Mahardhika (+6, 219) also checked in with a strong performance finishing in 5th.

Texas A&M won the event with a 285 and Wichita State finished second at 898.

Alberto opened the tournament on Friday with 69 to take the lead after day 1. Saturday she shot a 72, carrying a 2-shot lead into the final round. Taryn Torgerson from Wichita State shot a 71 Sunday to finished tied with Alberto.

Alberto was consistent throughout the three rounds, with a tournament-best 40 pars in on the 54 holes, and fired one of the five eagles shot in the three-day event.

For the Kats, Jenna Phillips finished 19th (+17, 230), Caitlin Brown was tied for 25th (+24, 237), Shawnee Allen was 30th (+31, 244) and Kari Bush finished 37th (+42, 255).

The Kats will get back on the course Sept. 11-12 in Springhill Utah at the Hobbs Creek Fall Classic where they will look to defend their title.
