FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Sam Houston State women’s golf team is in contention to win their first tournament of the 2019-20 season following the first two rounds Monday of the Ptarmigan Ram Classic at Ptarmigan Country Club.

The Bearkats currently stand tied for second place with host Colorado State in the 13-team field at 23-over 599 after carding rounds of 295 and 304. New Mexico State leads by 10 at 589 heading into Tuesday’s final round.

Wyoming is fourth at 601 followed by San Francisco (607) and Ball State (608).

Sam Houston State freshman Viera Permata Rosada had the lead in the individual standings after round one by posting a 3-under 69 on the par-72, 6,466-yard course. She had birdies on hole No. 2, 11 and 12 and parred the other 17.

Rosada shot a 6-over 78 in the second round to fall into a tie for fourth place at 3-over 147, four strokes off the leader. She had two birdies in the second round.

Senior Hanna Alberto shot a 2-over 74 in the opening round. She had two birdies on the fourth and 11th holes.

Alberto is tied for 15th place at 5-over 149 following a 75 in the second round. She recorded birdies on holes No. 1, 2 and 4.

Freshman Anna Takahashi shot a 4-over 76 in the first round with one birdie. She made a run up the leaderboard to move into a tie for 18th in the second round with a 74.

Sophomore Kenlie Barrett was also 4-over 76 after the first round. She had two birdies but had a triple bogey on the 10th hole. Barrett carded a 9-over 81 in the second round and is in a tie for 40th.

Freshman Zulaikah Nasser had a 10-over 82 in the first round. She shaved five strokes off that score in round two with a 5-over 77 to move into a tie for 50th.
