MAGNOLIA – That didn’t take long. In just her third collegiate tournament freshman Viera Permata Rosada won her first tournament, taking the title at the Huntsville Toyota Bearkat Invitational on Tuesday.
After opening with rounds of 70 and 71 to take a five shot lead, she closed out the tournament with a 76 on Tuesday, winning by three strokes.
“I was just trying to do my best throughout the round and stay calm and think about my swing tempo,” she said. “I was feeling really nervous even with the five-shot lead because things can change so fast.”
As a team, the Bearkats (911 team score) took second place behind tournament champions HBU who won the event with an 884.
In addition to Rosada, the Kats had one other top 10 finish with Hanna Alberto taking sixth overall. Alberto rallied from a 78 in the opening round to shoot 71, 74 and finished 6 shots back.
Zulaikah Nasser finished 12th at 11-over for the tournament, playing as an individual. Leah Alberto was 20th at 14-over, Tori Gatling 28th (+17), Kenlie Barrett 53rd (+27) and Anna Takahashi 56th (+28).
The Bearkats will be back in action later this month when they travel to Hawaii for the Rainbow Wahine Invitational.
