KAPOLEI, HAWAII – Despite posting another strong round at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational Tuesday, the Sam Houston women’s golf team slipped two spots down the leaderboard into third place.
The Bearkats followed Monday’s opening-round 289 with a 290 at the par-72, 6,128-yard Kapolei Golf Course for a 3-over 579. Cal Poly came out of nowhere to shoot 11-under 277 after posting a 298 in the first round to move into first place at 1-under 575.
Sacramento State is in second, one stroke ahead of Sam Houston State at 578, and BYU is in fourth at 9-over 585.
Senior Hanna Alberto made a run up the leaderboard Tuesday with a 3-under 69, four strokes better than her opening-round 73, to move into a tie for fifth at 2-under 142. She had birdies on holes two, three, five and 14 with her lone bogey coming on the par-4 fourth hole.
Freshman Viera Permata Rosada followed her first round 71 with a 72 for a 1-under 143 which has her tied for seventh place. Freshman Zulaikah Nasser shot another 74 but dropped six spots to stand tied for 25th at 4-over 148.
Sophomore Kenlie Barrett added seven strokes Tuesday to her opening-round and is tied for 31st at 5-over 149. Freshman Leah Alberto currently tied for 35th with back-to-back rounds of 75 for a two-round total of 6-over 150.
The Bearkats play the final round of the tournament on Wednesday.
