ARDMORE, Okla. -- A new season is underway and it starts the same way it ended, with the Kats right in contention and Hanna Alberto and Jenna Phillips are leading the way.

Alberto and Phillips each fired 1-over-par rounds of 72 as the Kats shot 295 as a team and currently sit in third place after 18 holes at the Lady Maxwell Invitational hosted by Oral Roberts.

The Kats are just one shot back of tournament leaders UTSA and Troy.

“Dornick Hills in Ardmore Oklahoma is a tight challenging course in great condition,” said coach Tommy Chain. “The girls were disciplined today and when things didn't go well they fought back and at the end of the day came up with a good score.”

Two other Kats posted top-20 rounds with freshman Kenlie Barrett in 13th after a 75 and Tori Gatling in 17th following a 76. Kari Bush rounded out the scoring for the Kats with an 83.

Round two of the three-day event will begin Saturday morning.
