NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Sam Houston State soccer could not get anything going in its final match of the season, falling 6-0 to Stephen F. Austin highlighted by a hat trick from the Ladyjacks’ Breanna Moore. The Bearkats conclude the season at 2-16-1 overall and 2-8-1 in Southland Conference action.

The match closes out a decorated campaign for the seven-member senior class who despite unfavorable results this season, contributed largely to the program’s 10-win season and Southland Conference Tournament championship appearance a season ago.

First Half
The Bearkats fell behind early, as Stephen F. Austin’s Amanda Doyle recorded her seventh goal of the season in the second minute. One minute later, Michaela Mencacci pushed the deficit to 2-0, courtesy of her first goal of the season. The Ladyjacks were held to four shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes but made the most of their opportunities, adding a third goal in the 11th minute coming from Breanna Moore.

Sam Houston responded, creating a corner kick opportunity 30 seconds later and added a pair of shots from Kaylee Davis soon thereafter but could not capitalize. The Kats were successful in keeping SFA at bay, permitting just one shot and none on goal the remaining 34 minutes but could not muster anything offensively. Sam Houston tallied just one shot on goal, courtesy of senior Allie Johnson, in the frame.

Second Half
The Ladyjacks kept their foot on the gas pedal, scoring 53 seconds into the second half as Moore added her second goal of the game to make it 4-0. Three minutes later on a corner kick, Moore completed the hat trick for a 5-0 advantage. Sam Houston fell behind 6-0 in the 66th minute as Julianna Echavarry tallied her first goal of the season on an assist from Carli Arthurs. The Kats created chances, but could not find the scoreboard. Sam Houston saw a pair of corner kicks, from Megan Bennett in the 67th minute and 76th minute as well as a shot from Johnson that sailed wide in the 73rd minute and Meredith Carlson goal in the 79th minute that was saved by SFA goalkeeper Lillie Ehlert, who finished the match with four saves.
