HUNTSVILLE - Fresh off an upset of league-leading McNeese, the Sam Houston State soccer team returns home to host a pair of Southland Conference matches this weekend.

The Bearkats (5-7-1 overall, 3-2-1 in SLC) will face Southeastern Louisiana (2-10-1, 1-5-0) Friday at Pritchett Field at 6:30 p.m. and Nicholls (3-9-1, 0-6-0) on Sunday at 1.

The Lady Lions are coming off a 5-3 home loss to Lamar, which is tied with McNeese and Incarnate Word atop the SLC standings at 5-1-0, on Oct. 11. Southeastern’s lone conference win was a 1-0 victory over Houston Baptist on Oct. 4.

Despite their record, the Lady Lions have played close conferences matches with three 1-0 losses.

Nicholls has struggled more in Southland Conference action. The Colonels have been outscored 26-2 and have been shut out by Lamar (6-0), Abilene Christian (8-0), UIW (3-0) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (2-0).

The Bearkats scored three goals by senior Katy Johnson, junior Sammi Mayock and freshman Kalynn Bickford in a span of 10 minutes to knock off McNeese 3-2 at Cowgirl Field on Oct. 13. The victory snapped the Cowgirls’ seven-match winning streak and ended Sam Houston State’s two-match skid.
