HUNTSVILLE - The Sam Houston State women’s soccer team picked up its second win of the season this past weekend and will look to carry over the momentum into Friday’s Southland Conference opener against Central Arkansas at Pritchett Field.

The Bearkats (2-5-0) just wrapped up the nonconference portion of their schedule with a two-game road trip to Illinois-Chicago and Prairie View A&M. Sam Houston lost to the Flames 1-0 Sept. 12 and bounced back to blank the Panthers 1-0 on Sept. 15.
Junior Courtney Pawlik collected her second goal of the season off an assist by freshman Brooke Jones to seal the victory over Prairie View. Pawlik leads the Bearkats with seven points on two goals and three assists.
Senior Carlota Suarez-Crespo has two goals for Sam Houston State this season and Jones, senior Katy Johnson, junior Sammi Mayock and freshman Kenzie Arrington have each scored for the Bearkats.
Central Arkansas is 1-5-1 heading into Friday’s contest. The defending Southland Conference champions’ lone win came in a 4-0 shutout over Louisiana-Monroe on Sept. 13.
UCA tied Arkansas-Little Rock 2-2 and have losses at Arizona State (7-1), Missouri State (3-2), Arkansas State (3-1), Oklahoma State (5-0) and Memphis (2-0).
Friday’s kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., weather permitting.
