FRISCO – Junior sprinter Chris Jefferson was named the Southland Conference men’s track athlete of the week in an announcement from league officials on Tuesday afternoon.

Jefferson continued his incredible junior season with a big weekend on the west coast at both the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational and the Beach Invitational at Long Beach State. His time of 20.66 in the 200 meters set a new meet record and set a new mark for the fastest time in the SLC this season.

That day he also helped the Kats win the 4x100 relay in a meet-record time of 40.07. A day later he helped the Kats lower that 4x100 time, dropping it to 39.99, the winning time for the day at the Beach Invitational and the third-fastest time in Sam Houston history. He also ran on the 4x400 relay at the Beach Invitational, leading them to a second-place finish.

Jefferson already owns the fourth-fastest time in the nation in the 100 meters, running a 10.08 on March 28 at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. He and the rest of the Bearkats are off this week in final preparations for the upcoming Southland Conference Outdoor Championships to be held next weekend at UIW in San Antonio.
