Game Story: Women's Tennis Clinches First Tourney Berth Since 2013 (4/8)

HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston State Bearkat women's tennis team made plenty of noise in the Southland Conference in 2017, but capped their resurgent year with in early April when they clinched a berth in the SLC Tournament for the first time in 2013.

The Kats were riding high after consecutive road wins over Central Arkansas and Lamar and entered April 8's match against Nicholls needing one more win to assure itself of a postseason berth in head coach Rob Hubbard's first season at the helm of the program.

It did not take long for Sam Houston to flex its muscles against the Colonels as they swept doubles play and took all five of the singles matches that were played to completion on their way to a 6-1 win. Of those five singles matches, only one went the full three sets.

Carrie Casey and Mila Milanovic each turned in great days, teaming up to get a win at No. 1 doubles before claiming their singles matches with straight-set wins. Casey put the Kats within a point of clinching with her win on the No. 4 singles court before Khee Yen Wee secured the match with a 6-1, 7-5 victory on the No. 3 line.
