HOUSTON – With 36 holes in the books, the Sam Houston State men have widened their lead at The All American tournament at the Golf Club of Houston. The Bearkats fired a team score of 290 which was tied for the best round of the day.

The Bearkats are the only team under par at 3-under and will take a five-shot lead over Baylor and Houston into Tuesday’s final round.

"We played really well in very tough conditions today," said head coach Brandt Kieschnick. "The guys did a good job of being focused on one shot at a time and not getting ahead of themselves."

William Holcomb shot a second consecutive round of 70 to move into second place, two shots back of Cecil Wagner of Ole Miss, who shot the only round under 70 on the day. Holcomb got his day started with a birdie and made the turn at even par. Three birdies on the back nine, including one on No. 17, immediately after a bogey on 16 got him back to 2-under for the round.

Jack Randle, who also shot a 70, made a big move up the leaderboard on Monday. Randle, a freshman from The Woodlands, moved 11 spots to a tie for fourth, 3-under for the tournament and three shots back of the lead. Randle played a bogey-free round on Monday with a pair of birdies on the back nine.

Noah Steele is in a tie for 12th after a 76 on Monday. He is currently 1-over for the tournament. Luis Carrera shot a 74 and is in 22nd at 3-over.

The final round will be Tuesday morning. The Kats will be paired with Baylor and Houston.

"I was proud that they stuck to a game plan, and that led them to having the low team score again for the second day in a row," he said. "We've got to continue to do the same thing tomorrow and be great at our process."
