For the second straight tournament, the Sam Houston men’s golf team is participating in one of the tougher tournaments in the nation.
After the first day of the Louisiana Classics hosted by Louisiana Lafayette, the Sam Houston golfers stand in fifth place in a 15-team field that includes four ranked opponents.
Playing 36 holes, the Kats overcame a rough opening 18 to move up five spots by shaving 8 shots off their score. After an opening score of 290, the Kats fired a 282, moving up from 10th to fifth.
Noah Steele was the most consistent golfer for the Bearkats on Monday, shooting a 71, followed by a 70 and is currently in 10th in the individual standings. Camden DeBonis shot the best round of the day for Sam Houston with a round 2 69.
The third and final round will begin Tuesday morning.
