The Sam Houston men’s golf team finished up the regular season with a runner up finish on Tuesday at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic at Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz.

The Kats entered the day with a 3-shot lead over UTSA, but on a day where seven teams shot under par, the Kats struggled to string together birdies. They were even par through the first nine holes and played the back 9 at plus-1. UTSA win the event by four strokes.

William Holcomb made a move up the leader board, shooting a 3-under, 69 to climb six spots and finish in a tie for sixth place at 6-under. Holcomb carded rounds of 71, 70 and 69, to stand as the only Bearkat with three rounds under par. The 69 was the low round of the day for the Bearkats.

Austen Christiansen also turned in a top-10 finish after an even-par round on Tuesday to finish 5-under and in a tie for 9th place.

Next up for the Bearkats is the Southland Conference Championships April 23-25 in McKinney.
