PRINCEVILLE, Hawaii – Combining for a team score of 281 in the second round, the Sam Houston State men’s golf team jumped three spots and sits in third place after day two of the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational.

The Kats, who boast a score of 564 through two days of action, follow behind No. 11 Pepperdine (557) and Missouri (561). UAB ranks fourth overall with 566 and No. 15 Louisville and Loyola Marymount are tied for fifth with 567.

Pacing the pack, William Holcomb remains in the top three after shooting a 69-stroke second round. He leads the Kats with a score of 135 and is currently tied for third with Utah Valley’s Jake Godfrey who also sits nine-under-par.

Holcomb picked up consecutive birdies on holes three four and five and picked up two more on holes 14 and 18.

Austen Christiansen was solid in the second round as well, matching his 70-stroke effort from the first round yesterday. Christiansen tallied four birdies and sits in a tie for 13th. Flipping scores from yesterday, Camden DeBonis (76) and Jack Randle (71) have both tallied a score of 147 and sit in a tie for 61st with nine other competitors.

Bouncing back from a 79-stroke effort in the opening round, Noah Steele buckled down and wrote down 71 on the card for round two. Steele led the Kats with six birdies in the second round and, as a result, jumped 13 spots to 84th.

The squad is set to wrap up the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational tomorrow with an 8 a.m. (HT) shotgun start at Princeville Makai Golf Club.
