PRINCEVILLE, Hawaii – After a delayed start due to heavy overnight rain, the Sam Houston State men’s golf team finished the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational in a tie for sixth place, Tuesday at Makai Golf Club.

No. 11 Pepperdine claimed the title shooting 836 as a team while runner-up Missouri finished with 838. No. 15 Louisville took third (845), followed by Cal State Fullerton (845), UAB (845), Sam Houston (848) and Loyola Marymount (848).

Austen Christiansen was the highest finisher for the Bearkats thanks to a 67-stroke performance in the third round. The senior collected seven birdies on the final day as he tied for sixth overall with a score of 207.

Just two strokes behind Christiansen was William Holcomb, who shot 74 in the final round and combined for an overall score of 209. Tying 14th overall, Holcomb tallied two birdies on the final day and finished the invitational seven-under.

In a tie for 66th, Noah Steele and Jack Randle each put up a score of 220. Steele, who shot 79 in the first round, wrote down a score of 70 in the final round thanks to five birdies. Randle posted a 73-stroke effort in the final round.

Rounding out the Bearkats’ efforts, Camden DeBonis tied for 73rd with a final score of 221. The senior picked up a birdie on hole five and then registered back-to-back birdies on holes 10 and 11.

The Kats will return to action on Feb. 17-19 for the All-American Intercollegiate in Houston.
