HUNTSVILLE – Continuing a strong summer performance, sophomore golfer William Holcomb qualified for the 2018 U.S. Amateur earlier this week after tying for the top spot at the U.S. Amateur Qualifier at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club in McKinney, Texas.
Holcomb posted a 141 card after two rounds of play. He led the field the first day after shooting 69, which included back-to-back birdies on holes five and six. The Crockett, Texas, native kept the momentum rolling with three consecutive birdies on holes 12-14.
He outlasted the field and finished day two of the qualifier with six more birdies and score of 72. Parker Holekamp, who also scored 141, was the other golfer to qualify for the U.S. Amateur.
The 2018 U.S. Amateur is set to take place on Aug. 13-19 at Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, Calif. Stroke play will take place down the road at Spyglass Hill Golf Course. For more information on the U.S. Amateur, visit usga.org.
