Noah Steele capped the opening month of the season for the men’s golf team taking sixth at an event in Nebraska, his third top-10 finish of the month.
On Thursday, he was recognized by the Southland Conference as the Golfer of the Month for September.
Steele opened the season with a win at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate. Steele’s score of 18-under par set a new school record, breaking his own mark of 17-under set in 2017 in Hawaii. His total of 54-hole score of 195 also beat his own school record of 198 also set in Hawaii. It was his second tournament title of his career after winning the Southland Conference crown last year.
“It really just came down to my prep and the things I had worked on over the summer,” Steele said on a recent edition of the Chasing the Cup Podcast. “I just tried to never be satisfied and kept going until I ran out of holes.”
Steele followed the victory in the opener with another top 5 finish in Dallas at the Trinity Forest Invitational hosted by SMU.
Steele fired a 69 on the final day to move up three spots on the leaderboard. He closed the tournament shooting 6-under par for the three-day event in a three-way tie for fourth place. His 69 was the low round of the day for the Kats.
“Noah Had another Solid week,” said head coach Brandt Kieschnick. “I’m proud of the way he got into contention again this week after he won. He didn’t rest on his win and worked hard to get himself back to have a chance to win again, and that’s what it’s all about.”
On Monday, Steele finished in a tie for 6th at the Prairie Club Invitational hosted by Nebraska and South Dakota. His low score of the tournament was a 71 in round 1.
On Monday, Steele and the Bearkats will begin play in the Bentwater Intercollegiate presented by Huntsville Toyota at Bentwater Country Club in Montgomery.
