Sam Houston State (1-0) vs. Prairie View A&M (0-0)

HUNTSVILLE – Rain storms and low temperatures have caused a venue change for Sam Houston’s women’s tennis home opening dual match with Prairie View A&M Saturday.

Originally on the schedule as a doubleheader at the McAdams Tennis Center on campus at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., the two teams now will meet in a single match at 5:20 p.m. at the indoor facility at the Woodlands County Club.

“Everyone who was planning to attend the home opener at the McAdams courts is welcome to come down to the Woodlands facility and watch,” head coach Rob Hubbard said. “The club has an excellent viewing gallery above the courts. We’ve had some exciting matches there before.”

The Woodlands Country Club indoor tennis facility is located at 2301 North Millbend Drive in the Woodlands. To reach the facility, take IH 45 Exit 76 to Woodlands Parkway. Fans can head south on Woodlands Parkway, exit at Grogan’s Mill Drive and turn right on Millbend.

Sam Houston opened its regular season schedule Monday with a 6-1 victory over UT-Rio Grande Valley. The Bearkats dropped only two sets as they swept all six singles matches.

Sam Houston and Prairie View A&M have met 10 times in the 36-year history of Bearkat women’s tennis. The Kats have won in all 10 meetings including a 6-1 victory in Huntsville last season.

The tennis team faces two strong squads on the road, traveling to play at the University of Houston on Friday, January 25 at 2 p.m. and Rice on Sunday, January 27 at 1 p.m.
