CONROE – The Sam Houston State Bearkats won three singles matches, but could not overcome dropping the doubles point at Cleveland State picked up a 4-3 non-conference win on Wednesday at the Walden Tennis Center.
Ema Barkovic and Caitlyn Mitchell teamed up to get a 6-2 win on the No. 3 court of doubles play to start things off, but the Vikings (6-8) took each of the next two doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead.
Cleveland State then clinched the match four matches into singles play, despite wins from both Mila Milanovic and Khee Yen Wee. After Blanche Lenoan had given CSU a 2-0 lead with a win at No. 6 singles, Milanovic took care of Jana Schober on the No. 5 court (6-1, 6-3) to get the Kats on the board.
Wee then picked up another point on the No. 3 court with a (6-3, 6-4) win over Aleksandra Golawska. But Isabella Spindler’s victory over Ema Barkovic on the top court clinched the match for the Vikings before Carrie Casey picked up another point for the Kats (4-9) with a (6-4, 2-6, 6-2) win over Princess Gbadamosi on the No. 4 line.
The Kats will jump back into conference play with a pair of matches this weekend, starting Friday when they host UIW at the McAdams Tennis Center.
