ITA Scholar-Athlete Listings For 2016-17

HUNTSVILLE –
For the fifth consecutive season, the Sam Houston State women’s tennis team has earned the ITA All-Academic Team Award, with five student-athletes earning the prestigious ITA Scholar-Athlete Award.

Teams are required to post a minimum GPA of 3.2 or higher for an academic year to earn the team award and the Bearkats surpassed that with ease, posting a 3.7 GPA for the 2016-17 academic year.

Additionally, five Bearkats – Fabienne Gettewart, Mila Milanovic, Carrie Casey, Khee Yen Wee and Caitlyn Mitchell – posted at least a 3.5 GPA or higher for the 2016-17 year, earning the ITA Scholar-Athlete Award. Over the past six years, 30 Bearkats have claimed the honor.

"I am unbelievably proud of the women's team for these well-deserved individual and team academic awards,” Bearkat head coach Rob Hubbard said. “The Sam Houston State Women's Tennis Team is a shining example of the word student-athlete. To add this stellar academic achievement to their turnaround season on court is a great reflection on their commitment to Sam Houston State, the SHSU tennis program and their own goals in life."

The Kats saw a remarkable turnaround on the court in Hubbard’s first season at the helm, qualifying for the SLC Tournament for the first time since 2013, while still maintaining excellence in the classroom.
