HUNTSVILLE - Fabienne Gettwart, senior from Dreiech, Hessen, Germany, has been named as “Most Valuable Player” for the 2018 Sam Houston women’s tennis team.
The four-year letter-winner was selection All-Southland second team in singles and All-SLC honorable mention in doubles along with her partner fellow senior Khee Yen Wee. Gettwart helped lead the Bearkats to the program’s highest single season team victory total ever as the Sam Houston women rolled up a 14-6 dual match record.
The team’s 8-3 Southland record and third place finish in 2018 stand as the second best marks in program’s 31 seasons in the league. Gettwart posted individual Southland records of 9-2 in at #1 singles and 5-1 at #2 doubles (with Wee). The nine SLC wins ranks as the second highest season total ever by an Sam Houston women’s tennis player. Gettwart produced a 13-6 overall dual match season record at #1 singles.
During her four-year career, Gettwart was part of a women’s tennis program that climbed from 2-16 won-loss mark her freshman season in 2015 to 14-6 record as senior.
Gettwart completed her career at Sam Houston ranked No. 2 in total dual match victories at the #1 singles position (30) and 14th in all-time doubles wins with all partners (41). An outstanding student as well, she holds a 3.73 career grade point average with a double major in marketing and economics.
