HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston State tennis team is set to travel to the campus of Texas A&M University for the ITA Regional Tournament on Oct 18-21 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.

Matches will begin at 9 a.m. every day and draws will be made Wednesday at 10 a.m. Due to potential weather setbacks, the tournament committee decided to change the scoring format for regionals.

Singles will be best of three 6-game sets with a 10-point breaker in lieu of the third set. Singles may return to a full two out of three sets after the first two rounds are complete. The committee will meet again about this after the second round of singles matches are complete. Doubles will be one 6-game set, no-ad scoring until the semifinals. Admission is for the tournament is free.

Last Time Out

Taking part in its second meet of the 2018-19 season, the Sam Houston State tennis team competed valiantly in the H.E.B. Invitational on Oct. 5-7 in Waco, Texas.

Sahaja Yamalapalli, Roos Gerritsen and Isidora Zivkovic all earned first-round victories and advanced to the quarterfinals. Yamalapalli came away with a pair of 6-1 set victories while Gerritsen produced two, dominant 6-0 performances. Zivkovic came with a tight 7-6 victory in set one and claimed her second set 6-4 to advance. The trio of Kats would later fall in the quarterfinals.

After dropping their round-one matches, Lusine Chobanyan and Karla De La Luz Montalvo met up in the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket. The match came down to three sets, but it was Chobanyan who came away with the victory (6-4, 0-6, 10-7).
