Sam Houston State head women’s tennis coach Rob Hubbard has announced the addition of incoming freshman Emma Goedkoop to the roster for the upcoming season.

The Bearkats finished fourth in the Southland Conference last season. Sam Houston State advanced to the finals of the SLC postseason tournament for the first time in school history after upsetting top-seeded Abilene Christian in the semifinals.

Goedkoop, who is from Dalem, The Netherlands, is currently ranked 1,444 in the International Tennis Federation rankings. She is the three-time winner of the Senior Masters in her state and is ranked No. 47 nationally in singles and No. 3 in her age group.

"Signing Emma is another feather in our cap as she comes with first-rate credentials and should have an immediate impact on our starting lineup,” Hubbard said. “She is solid on both sides and being a lefty will present problems for future opponents. I am excited about what Emma will be bringing to the program this fall and look forward to her future accomplishments as a Bearkat."

As a junior competitor, Goedkoop was the U16 doubles national champion and runner-up in U14 doubles. She was seventh in the Dutch Masters U12 singles and was a four-time winner of the U12-U18 Masters in her state.

Goedkoop played in several ITF juniors in her country and in Europe. She was the doubles winner in the ITF Tennis Europe Amsterdam (U16), Rotterdam (U16) and Zoetermeer (U14).

Goedkoop played three years of German Club Competition and went 14-2 in singles. She twice won matches over a top 100 German player when she was 16 and her highest German senior ranking was 98.
