HUNTSVILLE – Sophomore Isidora Zivkovic and two doubles teams won their flights to highlight another solid performance by the Sam Houston State tennis team as the fall season came to a close at the Bearkat Invitational Sunday at the Kelly and Ina May McAdams Tennis Complex.
Zivkovic defeated senior teammate Lusine Chobanyan 6-3, 6-3 in the flight A finals of the four-team invitational, which was a flighted round robin competition in singles and doubles and featured UTRGV, Texas State and Tyler Junior College. Junior Karla De La Luz Montalvo fell to Rishona Lewis of Texas State 6-4, 6-1 in the flight A third-place match.
In flight B singles, freshman Emma Goedkoop won the consolation finals by beating Texas State’s Aylssa Zayat 6-4, 6-3. Junior Roos Gerritsen dropped a close flight B finals match to Ye Yue of TJC 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (5).
Freshman Ryli Ruffin cruised to a victory in the third-place match of flight C. She beat Toby Lewis of Texas State 6-1, 6-2.
Montalvo and junior Sahaja Yamalapalli won all three of their flight A doubles matches after picking up two more victories Sunday over Josefina Cassara and Rishona Lewis of Texas State (6-4) and Helena Jansen and Emelie Schwarte of TJC (6-1).
Sophomore Petra Kaszas and senior Dena Nicolaou split their flight B doubles matches Sunday. After falling to Hana Kvapilova and Zayat of Texas State, they bounced back to top Jaden Chan and Momoko Yoshimura of TJC 6-1.
Ruffin and Zikova knocked off Ashley Lewis and Sofia Murcia of Texas State in the quarterfinals.
