NEW ORLEANS – The Sam Houston State Bearkats were pushed to four sets against the New Orlean Privateers, but they were able to pull out a 3-1 (25-14, 25-22, 23-25, 26-24) win with the help of Ashley Lewis’ team-high 17 kills.
The Bearkats (15-12, 11-4 SLC) rolled through the first two sets against the Privateers, hitting .355 as a team in the first set with only 4 errors, and hitting .514 as a team in the second set where they only tallied up a total of two errors. Lewis caught on fire early, hitting .213 on 47 swings and tallying up 11 digs, her --- double-double of the season.
The Privateers turned their play around in the third set, where they out hit Sam Houston as a team .303 to .278. It would take the help of Breanne Chausse’s 14 kills on 24 swings, hitting .400, to help push the Kats to victory in the fourth set.
Addison Miller added 16 digs making her career total now 1,410, and Morgan Janda dished out 34 assists to the Kats, second to her career high of 35.
The Bearkats finish up regular conference play on the road on Saturday where they take on Southeastern Louisiana at the University Center. A win over the Lions would secure no worse than the No. 3 seed for the Kats in next week's Southland Conference Tournament.
