HUNTSVILLE – A full week’s slate continues for the Sam Houston State volleyball team this weekend when they hit the road for the third straight weekend to take on Memphis, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Louisiana Tech at the Lady Techster Invitational in Ruston, La.

Sam Houston will be looking to rebound from a tough 5-set loss in its home opener to Texas State on Tuesday, but will have a pair of matches on Friday against the Tigers and Golden Lions before closing out the tournament against the Lady Techsters on Saturday at noon.

Fans can follow along via Live Stats for each match and also get updates as they happen by following @BearkatsVB on Twitter. The Bearkats’ match against Louisiana Tech on Saturday will be streamed on CUSA.tv

The weekend will likely see seniors Jordyn Vaughn and Brooke White each reach a career milestone as each is quickly closing in on 1,000 career kills. White turned in the fourth match of her career with 20 or more kills on Tuesday against Texas State and now needs just five to reach 1,000, while Vaughn’s 16 against the Bobcats leaves her needing just 18 more to reach the mark.

The pair ranks fourth and sixth in the league in kills, while Jaclyn Ward’s career-high 46 assists has her ranked fourth in the league in that category.

Sam Houston will be the second Southland opponent for Memphis, who won two of three matches last weekend in Conway, Ark., with its lone loss being to Central Arkansas. Meanwhile, UAPB will be searching for its first Division I win, while Louisiana Tech is coming off a 3-0 loss earlier this week to Mississippi State after having its tournament last weekend at Lamar cancelled due to the effects of Hurricane Harvey.

INSIDE THE SERIES
vs Memphis
Friday’s meeting with the Tigers will be just the third time Sam Houston has ever battled Memphis. The Kats have won both matches in the series, both via sweep, with the last match coming in 1992.

vs Arkansas-Pine Bluff
The Kats are 2-0 all-time against the Golden Lions, having squared off with them twice in the past three seasons. Sam Houston has swept them each time out, including last year in the second match of the season-opening UT Arlington Invitational.

vs Louisiana Tech
Saturday will be the 13th time Sam Houston has taken on the Lady Techsters, with the Kats owning an 8-4 all-time mark. SHSU last played Louisiana Tech in 2011, picking up a win that snapped a modest three-match win streak for the series.
