HUNTSVILLE - Roy Norrell will be one of the newest members to be inducted in the Sam Houston State Hall of Honor this fall. Norrell is one of eight men and women who will be inducted on Nov. 9.
Norrell played for the Bearkat baseball team from 1971 to 1973. He posted a 17-6 record in his career and still holds the fifth-best career ERA with a 1.78 mark.
1973 was Norrell’s best year, going 8-2 on the year and earning NAIA All-American honorable mention honors. That season, Norrell started the opening game of the District IV playoffs and shutout Southwestern University. He closed the year with a 1.34 ERA.
In his career, Norrell fanned 158 batters in 211 innings of work while walking just 50 batters.
The Hall of Honor Induction Ceremony is presented by the Bearkat Champions Fund in conjunction with the Sam Houston Letterwinner’s Association. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and tickets are $50 per person. The dress for the event is business attire.
