– With the Southland Conference regular-season title in tow, the Sam Houston State Bearkats will begin their quest for another berth in the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday when they open up the SLC Tournament at Constellation Field.

Sam Houston will enter the tournament as the No. 1 overall seed for the second consecutive season and will battle No. 8 A&M-Corpus Christi in the opening round of the tournament at 4:00 p.m. The winner will move on to play at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday against the winner of No. 4 UIW and No. 5 McNeese.

Each game of the tournament can be watched on ESPN+ and the ESPN app, as well as followed with live stats and on Twitter. Jason Barfield will also have an audio call on of each game of the tournament.

The Kats won two of three games against each of the three teams on its side of the bracket and ultimately won nine of the 10 SLC series that it played in 2019.

The team enters after having clinched the regular-season championship in its final regular season game of the year, walking off Northwestern State on Friday night at Don Sanders Stadium. The Kats then placed seven players on the all-Southland Conference team released on Monday, headlined by freshman Colton Cowser being named the league’s hitter of the year.

Festivities for the week will begin on Tuesday night with the Home Run Derby with Hunter Hearn slated to represent SHSU. Each player will receive their postseason awards Tuesday night.
