The Kats are coming off an 11-point loss to Utah Valley before the Christmas break, but will enter Saturday leading the Southland in scoring defense (64.9 ppg) and field goal percentage defense (40.8). On the flip side, ACU is one of the most efficient shooting teams in the league, ranking second in both field goal percentage (48.8), including both Jaren Lewis and Jaylen Franklin each ranking in the league’s top 10 in shooting accuracy.

ACU went 8-5 in non-conference play, but dropped its league opener on Thursday at defending champion New Orleans, 77-74 in the game’s final moments. Tevin Foster poured in 25 points for the Wildcats, who heled a narrow lead at the break before falling to 0-1 in SLC play on a night where Southland home teams went 6-0.

Meanwhile, Sam Houston continues to get big production from both Christopher Galbreath Jr. and Abrian Edwards with each having double-doubles against Utah Valley. Edwards has come on of late, scoring 18 points and pulling in nine boards per game in the last two contests while Galbreath ranks in the league’s top 10 in both scoring (15.7 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg).

Sam Houston leads the all-time series 22-20 with the Wildcats, but it was ACU who swept a pair of games against the Kats a year ago. Sam Houston had reeled off eight wins in a row before falling to ACU in Abilene, 71-64, on Feb. 4 before the Wildcats completed the sweep with an 84-81 win in Huntsville on Feb. 25 despite a career high 31 points from John Dewey III.
