SAN ANTONIO – Six Sam Houston State Bearkats reached double figures and the Kats closed strong to take down UIW, 85-74, on Saturday afternoon at the McDermott Convocation Center.
Marcus Harris’ 16 points paced the Kats (8-8, 2-1 SLC) who hit 65.5 percent from the floor in the second half and converted 26 of 31 tries at the foul line to avenge last year’s loss to UIW (5-8, 0-3 SLC) in San Antonio.
The Kats hit all five of their 3-point tries in the second half, including a triple from Delaney with 7:44 remaining that gave Sam Houston the lead for good at 65-62. He would add another less than 45 seconds later and his brother, Cameron, connected on a longball with 6:03 to play that proved to be the dagger as it put Sam Houston up 73-64.
Williams would add a season-high nine rebounds to his 10 points, including four offensive boards, while Boutte and Christopher Galbreath Jr. each had six apiece.
UIW’s Charles Brown III led all players with 21 points, converting six of his seven tries from the field and nine of 12 from the foul line.
Sam Houston will go after its third straight win on Wednesday when it travels to Corpus Christi to take on the Islanders at the American Bank Center.
