LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Senior Cameron Delaney led the Sam Houston State men’s basketball team (3-6) with 12 points, but a quiet offensive outing led to the Bearkats’ 79-52 defeat, Saturday afternoon at Little Rock.

Kai Mitchell gave the Bearkats three-straight points off of free throws to start the game and Little Rock stood neck and neck after a three-point play tied up the game at three points apiece. Interrupted by just two Trojan free throws, Sam Houston cruised on a 10-2 run that saw a pair of treys from Cameron Delaney, as well as layups from Chad Bowie and Josh Delaney.

However, after a sluggish start beyond the three-point arc, Little Rock’s Ryan Pippins and Rayjon Tucker came alive and spearheaded a 12-4 offensive swing to tie up the game, 17-17, with nine minutes to go.

Freshman Zach Nutall broke a five-minute dry spell with a layup, but Tucker answered back with a three-pointer on the next possession to give Little Rock its first – and final – lead of the game at the 7:43 mark. The Trojans outscored the Bearkats 18-6 in the remainder of the first half.

Sam Houston tallied four quick points four minutes into the second half thanks to a jumper at the elbow from RJ Smith and a pair of free throws from Josh Delaney. However, Tucker kept the Trojan offense rolling with his fourth three-pointer of the night.

Cameron Delaney responded to the trey with a layup in the paint, but the Bearkats went without another field goal for nearly eight full minutes.

The offense saw a spark around the seven-minute mark when Marcus Harris and Xavier Bryant hit back-to-back three-pointers to make it a 61-43 game in favor of the hosting Trojans. But, the offense struggled to score once again – going without a field goal until Delaney drilled his third three-pointer at the 4:09 mark.

Josh Delaney scored two quick buckets within the final minute, but it wasn’t enough as the Bearkats fell to 3-6 on the season with the 79-52 loss.

Tucker finished with a game-high 33 points.
