HUNTSVILLE – First-year Bearkat women’s basketball head coach Ravon Justice announced the Sam Houston State schedule for 2018-19 on Monday with 13 games at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum slated for next season.
“We are excited about the competitive schedule for the 2018-2019 season,” Justice said. “There are several teams that made postseason appearances and others will challenge us in preparation for Southland play.”
Season tickets for the 2018-19 season are now on sale and 2017-18 basketball season ticket holders will be able to renew their same seat through Friday, October 19. Invoices will be mailed out for renewals.
Pricing for the 2018-19 season will be $200 for Lower Reserved sections E and F, $99 for corner reserved and $99 for general admission. Season tickets packages include 23 events at Johnson Coliseum, including 10 men’s games, nine women’s games and four Southland Conference doubleheaders.
The Bearkat Champions Basketball Club is available to add onto your season ticket package for a donation of $200. Bearkat fans with access to the club may enjoy complimentary food and cash bar.
Justice’s Bearkats will open up her inaugural season at the helm when they travel to LSU on November 6. They will then kick off the home portion of the year on November 8 against Jarvis Christian. The non-conference slate includes a number of challenging trips, including Wichita State (Nov. 14), Louisiana (Dec. 8) and TCU (Dec. 20).
Home games against Wiley (Nov. 19), St. Thomas (Dec. 1) and Oral Roberts (Dec. 14) round out the home part of the non-conference slate. The Kats will also spend Thanksgiving weekend on the road in Hattiesburg, Miss., taking on both Troy and Southern Miss as part of the Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic.
“The non-conference schedule is loaded with great, competitive matchups that will test us early,” Justice said. “We will need the support of our amazing fans to come out and support our Bearkats. I couldn’t be more thrilled to get this season started and to be a part of the Bearkat Family.”
Sam Houston will open up the 2019 calendar year with Southland Conference play, hosting Abilene Christian (Jan. 5) and Central Arkansas (Jan. 9) to start things off. They will follow that up with three straight games on the road before returning to Johnson Coliseum for their longest home stand of the year – four games – from January 23 to February 2.
That will be a tough stretch two of the league’s perennial favorites – defending champion Lamar (Jan. 26) and Stephen F. Austin (Feb. 2) – each coming to Huntsville.
A road week at McNeese (Feb. 6) and Abilene Christian (Feb. 9) follows the homestand and sets the stage for a stretch of three of five at home late in the year. The Kats will host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Feb. 13) before going to Beaumont on February 16 to finish out the season’s series with Lamar.
A there-and-back trip to Nicholls is set for February 20 in the Kats’ only meeting this season with last year’s winners of the SLC Tournament, with the week rounding out on February 23 against Houston Baptist. Sam Houston will finish off its home schedule on February 27 against New Orleans which leads into a challenging final week with games at Central Arkansas (March 6) and Stephen F. Austin (March 9) to end the regular season.
The Southland Conference Tournament is once again scheduled to take place at the Merrell Center in Katy from March 14-17.
