HUNTSVILLE –
The Sam Houston State Bearkats picked up their first Southland Conference win of the Ravon Justice era on Wednesday and will now look to follow that up with its first road test of league play on Saturday at Incarnate Word.

The game is set to tip off at 1:00 p.m. at the McDermott Convocation Center and can be watched at UIWCardinals.com. Fans can follow along via live stats, or get updates by following @BearkatsWBB on Twitter.

The Kats evened up their league record with their win on Wednesday over Central Arkansas, snapping a 10-game losing skid to the Sugar Bears that had lasted back to the 2012-13 season. They had to play comeback in the final quarter to do so after UCA had erased a 13-point deficit to build up a 4-point lead of its own in the fourth quarter.

Sam Houston got 18 points from junior guard Jaylonn Walker in the game, including 12 in the fourth quarter, and made 30-for-43 at the foul line to negate a night that saw it shoot just 34.7 percent from the floor against the best statistical defense in the SLC.

Justice’s club will be looking to move to 2-1 in the league when it travels to San Antonio for Saturday’s matinee at the McDermott Center and put an end to the Cardinals’ modest two-game win streak in the series.

UIW is averaging just 53.3 points per game, but took on a road-heavy schedule in non-conference play that left them without a victory entering the Southland Conference slate. They got into the win column to open up conference play when they took down McNeese in Lake Charles, but followed that up with a 24-point loss at Nicholls just three days later.

Preseason all-SLC guard Imani Robinson leads the Cardinals in nearly all categories and is the only UIW player in double-figure scoring with 10.1 points per game.

SERIES vs INCARNATE WORD
Sam Houston owns a 3-2 record vs the Cardinals in the all-time series, but UIW has picked up victories in each of the team’s meetings over the past two seasons.
